Multi-Band HF / VHF / UHF mobile antennas

Fold-Over Hinge

Most Comet mobile antennas over 29″ length have a fold-over hinge built into the base section of the antenna. It is NOT an automatic fold-over, you must manually lift the element up out of the socket and lay the antenna whip down in order to enter garages, parking structures etc…

It is important that you lift the whip completely up and out of the socket before folding the hinge. Like any hinge, it will BREAK if it is folded the wrong direction. The hinge rotates 360 deg inside the socket so it will fold in the direction needed.

Many Chinese and other look-a-like antennas have very annoying problems associated with their fold-over hinges. The most common is a weak spring. The antenna lifts up and out of the socket all by itself at highway speeds! The antenna is unusable when it is laying down and most users need to defeat the hinge or constantly adjust the angle to keep it vertical.

And to be honest, Comet had this problem “initially” as well!  The weak spring was almost always a problem with the larger antennas so Comet engineers went to work and re-designed the fold-over. Our larger antennas now have a threaded collar around the hinge: Loosen the collar, lift it up, and the hinge is exposed. No more problem.

**WARNING** Many antenna companies have now copied the Comet fold-over design but many have avoided making the improvement to save a few pennies.

CGW-560

Pre-assembled ground wire kit for installing a mobile HF antenna as a base antenna and other uses as an antenna counterpoise.

Ring connector slips over the SO-239 connector, then the antenna screws on above the ring connector.
Ideal for balconies, apartments, condominiums, etc…
Six 5M (16.5ft) lengths of 16AWG wire with protective caps.

UHV-6

HF – 70cm Multi-Band Mobile Antenna
The 40M, 15M and 10M coils come with the antenna and are installed in the photo to the left. The 80M, 20M, 17M coils are optional. Each HF band is tuned by sliding the tuning stubs. 6M/2M/440MHz tuning is pre-set.

Gain & Wave:
HF – 50MHz 1/4 wave 0dBi
146MHz   1/2 wave 2.15dBi
446MHz  5/8 wave x 2  5.5dBi

VSWR:
>50 MHz 1.5:1 or less
<50 MHz  2:1 or less

Max Power:
>50MHz 200W SSB/100W FM
<50MHz 120 W SSB
Weight: 14-19 ozs
Length: 48 inches min, 76 inches max (approximate)
Connector: PL-259
Optional Coils:
L-3.5 80 meter coil
L-18 17 meter coil
L-14 20 meter coil

Mobile Mounting: The UHV-6 was designed to be lip mounted using the CP-5M or HD-5M (coax included). If you already have a coax cable assembly, use the RS-730 or RS-840 lip mount brackets. Providing a good ground connection for the antenna is important for good SWR. The set screws that hold the lip mount to the door must penetrate the paint for grounding.

User defined set-up: Without any of the HF coils attached, the the main mast of the UHV-6 is a small 6M/2M/440MHz triband antenna. YOU choose which coils to attach, in any combination.

For example: If you want a 10M/6M/2M/440MHz quad-band antenna, then only add the 10M coil to the top of the main mast. If you want a 40M/20M/6M/2M/440MHz antenna, screw the 40M coil on the top of the main mast and the optional 20M coil to the side and you have a 5-band antenna.

At the top of the main mast there are six threaded sockets where the HF coils can be attached (5 on the side, one on top).

Due to the weight, the UHV-6 was originally designed to hold up to three HF coils at a time while mobile.
You can add more if you are parked.  When mobile, a guy line is recommended if more than three coils are attached. Due to the weight, the 80M coil should be attached by itself or the antenna guyed.
